The Catalinbread Fuzzrite Germanium is based on the rare circuit that Mosrite produced between 1966 and 1968, and the story goes that only 250 units of the original effect were ever made since this Germanium circuit only became popular after psychedelic rock became more mainstream. At that point, Mosrite had already switched to silicon transistors, leaving many guitarists hungry for that authentic Germanium fuzz sound. Well, here it is.
The Fuzzrite Germanium: Authentic Sound with a Modern Twist
The Catalinbread team have used an original Mosrite example as the benchmark during the development of the Fuzzrite Germanium. This means that this modern version features NOS PNP Germanium semi-conductors with a polarity reverse IC, plus a mini-switch that allows you to switch between Vintage and Modern mode. In Modern mode, you can count on the extra lows needed to match contemporary rigs.
