Boasting boutique-grade specs and style, the body of the Cort G290 FAT has been shaped from lightweight sassafras and topped with flamed maple to finish an astonishingly versatile guitar. This particular build injects a solid punch and prominent higher-mid range into the foundation sound, and a pair of Voiced Tone VTH-77 humbuckers carve out acutely modern amplified tone that can be easily tweaked to back up anything from pop and rock to blues. Meanwhile, a high-quality CFA-III tremolo bridge and six stainless steel block saddles combines with a set of locking tuners to lay down firm tuning stability.
The Cort G290 FAT: It’s All in the Neck
Besides the stunning finish, the neck of this model is definitely something to write home about. Both the neck and fretboard are made from a single piece of birdseye maple – which not only bears a lush, complex grain, but adds a sweet touch of bite to the overall sound. The compound fretboard radius is just as thoughtful a detail, and progresses from a round and snug 12 inches at the nut, to a flatter and faster-feeling 15.75 inches at the body, lending rhythms as well as leads agile playability. The newly developed Ergo-V neck profile also has a lot to do with the level of playing comfort on offer and completes a supreme all-rounder of a guitar.
