The Piano music of Jean Sibelius ranks among the greatest of Finnish music, and his 1924 set Five Charactereistic mpressions demonstrates his importance. The third piece of this set, The Oarsman is the pick of the bunch, having an uplifting Spanish theme and flavour. It is an impressionist piece that captures the flair and the imagery of reality with fabulous tonality and colour.
