Squier present the Contemporary Active J Bass: a more affordable, lightly modernised Jazz Bass that comes fully decked out with up-to-date perks. The timeless, snug contouring of the poplar body and the C-profile roasted maple neck combine for an instantly familiar feel, where the slightly flatter 12 inch fretboard radius and narrow tall frets support fast-paced riffs and bass lines and the satin-gloss finish supports smooth fret navigation. That said, it’s not just playing comfort that’s well taken care of in the attainable form of this HH-configured Jazz Bass.
The Contemporary Active Jazz Bass HH: Contemporary Looks & Tone to Match
Taking a Fender classic and giving it a contemporary twist, this J-bass comes dipped in a matte paint-job, polished off with a matte-black headstock and mounted with black-chrome-plated hardware. Plug it in, and the satisfyingly brutal, punchy foundation sound of the ceramic humbuckers at bridge and in the middle positions are given full presence and consistent balanced by the integrated 9V active preamp. Tweak the results to taste via a set of volume, tone and blend pots as well as an ever-useful bass/treble boost control to carve out an array of tonal profiles.
