As any outboard producer knows, if you’re not careful, one vintage drum machine quickly spawns a collection of four or five. That’s if you can find them, of course. Answering the call of music makers – both advanced and beginners – the world over, Behringer have been busy building solid, money-saving reissues of vintage classics for years already. And now, Building on the solid legacy of the RD-8, Behringer push perfection with the RD-8 MK2: with improved sounds and an upgraded sequencer. The Rhythm Designer is back, and it’s better than ever.
The Behringer RD-8 MKII Rhythm Designer
The sound of this slab of beat spitting magic will be familiar – and can be weaved together to back up everything from ballads to complex jazz-tronica. The parameters of each sound can be tweaked with ease using a smooth and accurate set of control pots, while a built-in wave-designer and dual-mode filter, and a near one-to-one replication of an old 662 OTA-chip provide more than enough sonic sculpting tools to play with. Stack sounds to build a custom groove using the refined, MKII version of the x0x-style pattern sequencer that comes with extra step-repeat and note-repeat function to further streamline the process. More than enough reason to add one to the ever-growing collection.
